Beach Still Life

after Louise Glück

Royal blue water, red and white striped
lighthouse for scale
on the way, Matisse-shaped marshes,
grasses that feel like just-washed tousled hair.

A deadpan sky. An ‘Edge of America’ sans
the political. A sharp sun that plays
with our eyes. I take no pictures
today.
