A Couple of Ways of Looking at the Moon

Marquee Moon: Tom Verlaine died last week; his guitar solos
arpeggios sullen punk raindrops scraping a concrete pond of jazz; few
really noticed that hand meets air meets face angel slap of a voice he had.

Full Moon: Placid-hung in once-monthly skies. They are pampered. They
are serene. Queen bees lulled by jagged hives of stars.

Fingernail Moon: Brazen slices never challenging a waxing sky. Heaven citrus. Lost
In its own sweetness.

Marquee Moon (let’s try again): Could we watch a movie on the moon? Cossetted in seats awaiting
gravity’s challenge; how would popcorn work?

Country Song Moon: Forget the sullen dog, the pickup truck, burdened as a cabdriver’s lips, try to forget
all the violations a heart can summon. There is always a moon. Willing you to watch by the window.
And wait for the wrong things.
