Sorry we are

They walk through mountain passes
desert wastelands tender valleys
riddled by terror their faces lined
with the horrors that are their lives
they are welcomed here
and everywhere
with rage
and hatred
acrimony and fear
kept out by walls of barbed wire
and steel stained
with the blood of broken hope
seeking refuge they are
rebuffed and rejected
tossed away like refuse
like rubbish
like garbage
you saw them those little brown babies
left to drown in the muddy waters
we are the world
that slaughters its young
we shoot them bomb them
starve and torment and poison
them and then
we watch the footage
in the comfort of our homes
with a drink before dinner
and an endless supply
of regrets.
