The Joy of Sex Too
“Girls have flowers down there.”
“What do boys have?”
“Lightning bolts. I read about it in a book that tells you everything you want to know about sex. It has to do with a lot of things, for example, a gift of rouge, a trove of silver earrings, keys, bows and arrows, picture shows.”
“—that’s what it is, that’s what the fuss is—- flowers and lightning?”
“Yes, but—there can be flowers without lightning, lightning without flowers. Flowers to woo by, flowers to die by.”
“Will there be blood?”
“Yes, and it also causes death in the young. regrets for the old. It is all a lot of trouble.”
“Who are ‘they’? What book? Who told you this story of birds and bees?”
“It was an old book of poetry—I forgot the name of it.”
