incompetence

a knock
at my door –
6 am.
my puppy
went berserk –
i had
to shut
her in
the bedroom
and answer.
“yes?”
i said
thru the
screen.
“hello,
we’re the
poo police.”
“heh?”
it was
a small man,
behind him
2 officers.
“just kidding.
we saw
you walk
your dog.”
he peered ovr.
his shoulder
at the
officers.
“this is
the worst
part of
the job.”
“can i
help you?”
i asked.
“yes,
we’re filming
a movie,
and we
need you
to move
your car.”
a universal
studios
truck
waited
behind my car
to snag
its place.
“you can
have
my spot,”
the small man
said.
“where’s that?”
he pointed
across
the street.
“can you
move it
now?”
“like
now,
now?”
“yes,
like
now,
now,
now.
sorry
it’s sudden.”
“well,
you guys
should-a
put up
a notice
or somethin.”
“you’re right,
we should-a
what were
we thinking?”
he rolled
his eyes
at the
apathetic
officers.
“you’ll have
to wait.
my coffee
just hit,
and my
dog’s going
berserk.”
she barked
and scratched
relentlessly
at the
bedroom door.
a 2-month-
old puppy –
what was
i thinking?
“ok, sir
but we
need you
to move it
asap.”
“is there
a fine
if not?”
he looked at
the officers
who looked at
each other.
nobody knew
what
the hell
they were
doing.
“i’m gonna
hit the toilet
first
and then
take care
of
my dog.”
incredulity
stunned him.
“what’s
the difference
if my car
is here
or there?”
again,
nobody
knew.
“well,
i’ll be
out when
i’m out.”
the little man
split
the officers
and stormed
down
my walkway
parading
his pout.
i smiled
and closed
the blinds.
the incompetence
of some people
crucified them.

adventure

i don’t
live
a very
interesting life.
even tho
i write
about it,
i don’t
pretend
that it’s
fascinating
or that
anyone else
should think
it is.
i spend
a lot of
time
sitting around
w/
my dog,
smoking
cheap cigars
and drinking
on my porch.
sometimes,
records play.
i’ve been
a few places,
seen
a few things.
i don’t
crave
constant
adventure
like i
once did.
there’s enough
adventure
in imagination.
and if
they tell
you
there’s not,
they’re wrong.
