EARLY SPRING

Linda Pastan

It must be a mistake-
Someone's misset the sun
which sounds its bronze alarm
a full month early.
Now along the hill crocuses
are pushing aside their blankets
of leaves, and sleepy bees
blunder among our picnic things.
Love, if the sun so abundantly
heaped on both our laps
is fool's gold only
let's spend it foolishly.
